Diapers, Diapers, Diapers

Had I known our decision to cloth diaper would turn into a debate of presidential proportions among friends and co-workers, I’d have kept my decision to myself. I had no idea how passionate people were about disposable diapers … I mean babies poop and pee in them, it’s not like national health care or a tax increase. But, alas, people really are concerned with the fact that *gasp* I am going to have to touch poop. News flash, babies poop and parents will often have to touch it. But, I digress, my original reason for this post was to share an awesome resource for Nashville area parents who are venturing into or considering cloth diapers.

The husband and I were at Target one day (pick a day, any day and we were likely at Target) and saw a car with a bumper sticker that said “DifferentDiapers.com.” This was likely after an afternoon of poop debates with co-workers, so I was immediately intrigued – cloth diapers are different, maybe there are people in Nashville who won’t judge my decision. So, I Googled and this is how we found Different Diapers and Noelle.

On her site I saw a Cloth Diapering 101 class and immediately sent an inquiry. Noelle quickly responded and invited us in for a class free of charge. So, I shared the info with another couple we know who are cloth diapering and we set up a double date. I’ll admit I was a little skeptical at first … a free class? Surely she was going to try and sell us $500 worth of diapers.

But, Noelle was the furthest thing from the pushy sales person I’d envisioned. The class was around an hour and a half and full of so much helpful information. Even though we’d already purchased our diapers, Noelle went though each kind of cloth (prefolds, AIOs, pockets) and how to put on each. She showed us all the different folds for the diapers and patiently answered our questions and let us practice. The most helpful portion though was when she walked through how to wash the diapers and how to install the sprayer on a toilet to help in the cleaning process.

After hearing people debate and ridicule our cloth diapering choice for weeks, I had started to second-guess our decision, but Noelle put me back at ease. She helped us understand just how easy cloth diapers can be and how worth it they are.

So, if you are considering cloth diapers or wondering how they work, please do yourself a favor and check out Different Diapers – I promise it will be worth your time!
