New Year Goals, Not Resolutions

I am not a fan of resolutions. Why, you ask … well, let me ask you a question … when was the last time a New Year’s Resolution changed your life, I mean, really changed your life? Every New Year’s we sit down and think about the things in our life that we’d like to change or upgrade. Maybe it’s health related – mental or physical, or maybe it’s to just have more fun. But, then February comes and you dive head first into a box of chocolates or cozy up to your couch and don’t emerge until August.

This is why for 2013 I have decided to set goals for myself and then achieve them. The only thing I am resolving to do is to stick with it; but I am resolving this today, not in three weeks, but today.

Over the next week or so, I will be posting these goals here to provide myself another point of accountability. Today, I am kicking things off with my fitness goals. These are strictly related to my overall fitness levels. Notice that I have also set deadlines – because my marketing training tells me that goals have to be measurable, achievable and include a timeline. Here goes:

  • Do a 1 minute plank – Feb. 2013
  • Master a pain-free push up – March 2013
  • Lunge (reverse and forward) without tipping over – Jan. 2013
  • Nail kicks in Turbo Fire – June 2013
  • Complete INSANITY! – Dec. 2013
  • Run a 5K – Sept. 2013
  • Build arm muscle – Feb. 2013
  • Do 5 pull ups in a row – Oct. 2013
  •  Barbell squats – Sept. 2013
  • Take a Group Fitness Class – Dec. 2013
The next part of this is outlining just how I am planning to reach these goals … I am taking this one plan at a time, so for the remainder of December and carrying me through January, February and possibly March, I plan to do the following:
  • Slim & 6 pack – M W F
  • Arm Routine from Slim in 6 – M W F
  • Thin Thighs Gauranteed – Tu & Th
  • Turbo Fire – M Tu W Th F
  • Slim in 6 Ramp it Up/Burn it Up – Sa
  • Slim & Limber – Su Tu F
After March, I will start the Couch 2 5K program and continue incorporating more strength training, then I will move on to INSANITY! and possibly P90X after.
Who’s ready to kick it into gear?!
