Shaky Legs

“My quads are on fire!” Sing it! As much as I want to work my legs and build those quads (and shrink the calves … BOOTS!), sometimes I dread Lower Fix (aka Leg Day). Don’t get me wrong, once it’s done I love it! It’s just the walk back downstairs immediately after that I am really dreading.

With only five days left in round 1 of 21 Day Fix, I am really excited to tally the final results. One thing I wish I had been better with was following the eating plan. So, that is my focus today forward. I have been committed to the workouts, but it is time to get serious with the nutrition. Starting today, no more mini Twix or Milky Ways (Jennifer, slap me next time I come in your office to steal one!).

Let’s do it!

Week 3 21 Day Fix

This is the final week in my first round of 21 Day Fix. So, far, I am down 5 pounds and am finally rediscovering muscles!

Friday and Saturday were food “disasters.” Meaning, I may have over indulged a bit. I am human and this was a good reminder of how crappy I feel when I drink and eat crap that doesn’t nourish. But, I got it out of my system and cam back with a vengeance yesterday.

Yesterday, was Total Body Cardio and today Upper Fix. Sunday also served as food prep day and a mental reset from the cheat meals over the weekend. My major win on Sunday? Going to Cracker Barrel and not even touching a biscuit. For me, this was huge. Hey, gotta celebrate the little wins!

Friday the 13th

Yes, I know today isn’t Friday the 13th (in fact it’s Pi Day 3.14!), but it is Day 13 of the 21 Day Fix … Dirty 30! This particular workout is challenging, but it is my favorite! I think it is my favorite because it is challenging and a total body workout. Practically every single muscle is shaking by the time I finish. Hurts so good!

shakeologyicedcoffeeLast week, I bought Blue Diamond Almond Milk Iced Coffee Caramel Macchiato. I’ve been putting off trying it just in case it didn’t live up to my expectations. But, this morning, I got a wild hair and decided to mix it in with my Chocolate Shakeology. Now, I love me some Starbucks Frappacino … but this concoction tasted WAY better than the sugar filled iced coffee drinks I order at Starbucks and it was only 260 calories. Um, yes please.

One Day at a Time

This morning, I wanted to stay curled up in bed with the fiancé and the pets – all 3 boys looked so warm and cozy. Even as I got up, put on my workout clothes and drank my pre-workout, I was negotiating a rest day with myself. I can double up on Saturday or do it tonight, or whatever. But, I know myself and I knew that if I didn’t do it this morning, it wasn’t happening.

So, I laced up my Nikes and pressed play. I pushed through and I got it done, 30 minutes and that’s it. Today was Cardio Fix and Day 12 of 21 Day Fix. I can feel my body getting stronger, that doesn’t mean it got easier though!

Sure, I could use a few more minutes of sleep, but it was more important to me to get my workout in and stay on program. It would have been easier to stay in bed, but I would have regretted it all day. With only 94 days until Viva Las Jacobs, I am more focused and dedicated than ever.

Working out is only part of the equation, the rest is all nutrition – fueling my body so it can push its limits and get fit and healthy. To keep me on track, I start every single day with the Healthiest Meal of the Day … Shakeology. All natural, dense nutrition and superfoods. Did I mention delicious? I cannot put into words how much I love my Shakeology. My current favorite recipe is Vanilla Shakeology, Almond Milk and Tropical Fruit (frozen). It’s like a tropical milkshake and its good for me.

Ahh Pilates

Today marks the halfway point of my first round of 21 Day Fix and it was also an active recovery day, which means my sore muscles (mainly glutes and triceps) got a little rest and stretch. By rest, I mean they only had to lift their own weight rather than added weights.  I do not mean they (or I) got to chillax and do nothing.

The best part about the concept of active recovery is that you are still burning calories and challenging your body. Pilates Fix always reminds me that I really, really need to work on my flexibility. It makes me feel 90 to say this, but, goodness my hips are tight and sore! My goal is to work on that and get the flexibility back – that is what helped me push through today when I thought my joints and muscles were going to give out.

Pushing through is really where the benefit of this whole program comes into play. It’s not easy – it may look like it, but its not – and you are constantly pushing past the limits your mind has put on your body. You can do it and as Autumn says on Day 1, it doesn’t get easier, you get better one day and one pound at a time.

21 Day Fix Day 10

So, remember me mentioning I upped my weights for Upper Fix yesterday? Yeah? Feeling it today!!

Luckily, today was Lower Fix (aka LEG DAY!!), so my poor little (teeny tiny) triceps got a bit of a rest. They still worked, holding up the weights for squats, lunges and more squats and lunges.

After Lower Fix, I find myself questioning our decision to get an apartment with a loft and then put our workout are up in the loft. It took me a good 45 seconds to take that first step down the stairs.

On the up side of Lower Fix & Day 10 – down a total of 4 pounds. I haven’t measured inches, but will after the first 3 weeks. Either way, I feel so much better than I did a week ago.

21 Day Fix – Days 8 & 9

Sunday was Day 8 – which also meant the start of the second week of 21 Day Fix and my second Total Body Cardio – whew! Total Body Cardio is no JOKE! Like Day 1, I was dripping is sweat and my legs were a bit wobbly as I waddled down stairs. But … I am learning to love that feeling!

This morning, day 9, was Upper Fix – let’s just say, it’s a good thing I don’t walk on my arms! I upped my weights (just a few pounds) and it made all the difference. My arms are a beautiful balance of sore, shaky and tired. Again – I LOVE IT!

Day 7 Yoga Fix

Typically, I dread the “yoga” day in any workout program. Let’s be completely honest here – my balance is TERRIBLE and my flexibility, well, let’s just say it peaked in second grade (I used to rock that little box that you had to push the dial forward on – whatever it was called).

But today … my body was super excited to stretch and hold poses and NOT do lunges or squats or weights. Despite this, as usual I wanted to quit about 5 minutes in and almost did … but then I remembered why I started and pushed my way back into downward dog and kept going.

After one full week of 21 Day Fix, I am seriously in love with the program. It’s challenging – but not so much so that I get the “I can’t do this” mental block. It’s fun and Autumn is incredibly motivating throughout. Plus, there is a modifier for when things get difficult. I cannot wait to see the results after 21 days.

The best part is the focus on nutrition and eating the right foods versus counting calories. For me, not eating chocolate is the hardest part (thank you to those that keep candy on their desk at the office – you know who you are :-)). But having the containers to measure and also keep nutrition top of mind has helped me make better decisions and try to minimize the “treats.”

21 Day Fix – Dirty 30!

Dirty 30 … I had envisioned all sorts of pain and torture with this one. The name is just so … daunting! But, I survived and felt the oh so good muscle burn.

My left quad is killing me – likely from being used more in 6 days than it has in my entire life! But, I was able to push through the squats and lunges and get it done. That said, I am really looking forward to Yoga Fix tomorrow!

I do need to look into getting some heavier weights so I can mix it up as my muscles start to get stronger.

21 Day Fix Day 5

21 Day Fix Day 5 … Cardio Fix. Today was a little challenging – I know everyone says it, but burpees can suck it! But, as Autumn likes to remind me (every day, I might add), “you can do anything for 60 seconds.” I might disagree when it comes to burpees, but I pushed through and got a little burn in before the sun came up.
